3 Esports Markets to watch in 2022

It’s no secret that in 2022 the world heavy weights in esports and gaming include Europe, Asia, and North America. However, as esports popularity increases and governments recognize the economic and community benefits that can be derived from establishing a gaming presence, other regions and countries are taking over larger portions of the market share.  Let’s take a look at 3 notable countries:

1. Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s esports economy is currently valuated at $1 billion, but that number is set to expand to an astonishing $6.8 billion by 2030.  This is in large part due to their government’s keen investment and acquisition of esports organizations to establish themselves as the leading esports hub of the Middle East.  Notable, investments they have made so far include purchasing ESL Gaming and FACEIT, which they then merged into one entity, ESL FACEIT Group.  As funding continues for gaming infrastructure and arenas, this country is sure to be one to watch as they continue to grow their presence!

2. Malta

For those that don’t know, Malta is a small island located in the Mediterranean. However, what it lacks in size it is making up for in a grassroots effort to establish a domestic esports presence in the country.  Currently, their homegrown tournaments include Eden Esports’s Malta Vibes Knockout Series and they have an established gambling company through GamingMalta.  The country is also leading the charge to incorporate gaming into educational initiatives through their Level Academy platform.  With this holistic integration across sectors, they are sure to grow and grab more market share!

3. Brazil

It is no surprise to see Brazil on this list as they currently have the largest market within the Latin America region.  Esports holds great societal implications for Brazil because it provides a cutting edge way for enthusiasts to earn money and escape poverty.  Due to the accessibility of smartphones for most of its citizens, mobile gaming has taken a strong root in the country with companies like Riot Games and Garena establishing a presence there.  However, PC gaming is on the rise and with it comes a passionate increase in fans for established leagues like Wild Rift, CS:GO, League of Legends, and more!
